About two weeks ago we experienced a storm that only lasted maybe an hour, but left our community in shock. It wasn't quite a tornado, but we had winds strong enough to knock down trees and throw our neighbors trampoline on their roof. That morning I decided to take Jarett to work so that I could get out and about that day. As we were driving we noticed that it was pitch black on one side of the sky. Within seconds the wind started pounding. I dropped Jarett off and started heading home when the hale and then rain came. It was pounding my car and I couldn't see very far in front of me. The wind was so strong my car was rocking back and forth. It was then that I felt I needed some prayers! lol Somehow I made it home after about 45 min which it usually only takes 10. When I got home my garage door wasn't opening, meaning the power was out. I waited in the car until I felt it was calm enough for me to grab Kai and run in the house. It really was quite the adventure and I felt like I was living in a really suspenseful movie. A mother, grabbing her sleeping child and protecting him as she runs through the pouring rain and pounding wind to take cover from the storm. :D I got in the house and not to long after that the wind and rain stopped. All of our neighbors started coming out of their homes to see the destruction. I walked out with Kai and realized one of our trees was actually torn down. Luckily nothing hit our house as many of our neighbors had branches and trees that caved in part of their homes. Here is a picture of our road to get to our house.
As you can see, there were power lines all over the roads. I'm glad that I had made it home without running into this! Due to the power lines being torn down all over our community, we were out of power for an entire week.
Thankfully we hadn't gone shopping for two weeks and we didn't have much to lose in the fridge and freezer anyway. What we did have we cooked up using our fire pit in the backyard. We were pretty much camping in our own house. We did have running water though since we are hooked up to the city water. We quite enjoyed living by candle light :D After three days it stared getting a little more difficult to enjoy. To keep Kai cool he spent the heat of the day playing in a cool bath. Jarett went to go get some ice but it was all sold out. On day four we were given a generator from our ward to run some fans and charge our phones. Finally on day five, at 6pm the power came on. We ran the AC a lot that night and kept the lights on until late. We could take advantage of our luxury once again!
A tree that came down close to Michigan Lake from a storm right before this one. About 20 min from our house.
