What do you do when you have only had six hours of sleep in the past week and you're at your wits end of baby care?
Here are some things that have kept me smiling and sane...
Yesterday night I was feeding Kai an extra juicy meal at 2am. Jarett was sound asleep through all the feeding noises. I was putting Kai back down in his crib when Jarett said loud and clear while still in deep sleep, "Nazi lactation." I think I might have died laughing.
It was the second day home from the hospital when Jarett and I were sitting in the sun room trying to rest after the long night. We started laughing about something I can't even remember. It was then I realized that my stomach looked like jello when I laughed. We laughed some more. And then we started laughing so hard that there were tears coming from our eyes. I think it took three days just to heal from that incident.
I've decided that Kai sounds like a raptor. Like the raptors from Jurassic Park. I hate those things and I used to have nightmares about them when I was younger, maybe I still do. But I love the noises that Kai makes. We went to the ear doctor two days ago to do another check up on Kai's hearing (which by the way is just fine). We were sitting quietly in the doctor's office as she was doing the routine check up when Kai started making his raptor noises. She started laughing, which made us laugh, which almost ruined the testing.
We gave Kai his first real bath just a few days ago. He loved it at first, relaxing completely in the warm water. Before we finished though he began to get particularly fussy (making lots of raptor noises). Jarett was soon holding him with both hands as we were talking softly and trying to calm him down. Right before we were about to put him into the warm towel, he pooped...all over Jarett's hand. Jarett's response... "Oh dear."
Oh, and while we're on the popular subject of Kai's plumbing, I can't forget the dodging of Kai's stream of pee every other time we change his diaper. Seriously he can shoot that stuff across the room.
We can hardly stand the joys of parenthood.

It was 6 hours in the past week total! Well, more like in the past three days. He was going through a growth spurt and I would get about 2 hours of sleep a night. Right now he is giving me about 5 to 6. I look forward to having more sleep for sure!
