Hannah: I said goodbye to my 2nd grade students last week because it was the end of my semester. I will be returning to the same classroom in the fall to complete my student teaching but it will be with a new set of students. I know I will love them just as much but I will sure miss these kiddos.
I have finally completed my preparations to become a full time student teacher this semester by participating in a 2nd grade class at Hau'ula Elementary. Here is a quick, choppy overview: Hau'ula is ten minutes drive from where we live in Laie. Every other day I was able to enjoy that early morning drive along the beach to the elementary school while calming my nerves for each crazy day ahead. I took classes on campus as well as worked at the cafeteria on the days I was not at the elementary school. Working in a classroom setting and getting to know the young children was extremely difficult, yet even more rewarding than I had ever anticipated. I have grown so much through my relationship with my cooperating teacher and students, as well as from overcoming all of my nervousness and stress that comes with having an introverted personality. I taught several lessons throughout my time there. Each lesson was observed by different professors from the BYUH School of Education. My lessons varied from absolute failures to beyond successful! I have been greatly blessed to be set up with Mrs. Espinoza. She is a wonderful teacher and I aspire to be like her. (I hope to give her a Book of Mormon soon!) My student teaching begins in August after completing all of my required courses over the spring and summer terms. That means I will be given full control of the classroom for several weeks. I cannot explain how nervous I am for this new adventure but I know that with the Lord's help, I can move this mountain!! "God does not call the qualified, he qualifies the called!"
